Automotive Dealer - new Nissan Sunny sedan in India on August 3, 2011 ; Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd, the local unit of Japan’s Nissan Motor Co., aims to triple India sales by March 2012, according to the local unit’s managing director and chief executive Kiminobu Tokuyama.
Nissan, which has introduced the Micra, Teanna and X Trail models in India, plans to sell 40,000 units by March, Tokuyama told reporters, after unveiling the Sunny sedan for the Indian market.
The Sunny will be pitted against Suzuki’s Dzire, Volkswagen’s Vento, Toyota’s Etios and Hyundai’s Verna and will start selling in October.
He said Nissan aims to procure at least 85% of the Sunny’s parts locally by the time it is introduced. This will ensure it is priced competitively, he said. Meanwhile, Nissan is more than doubling its dealer network in the country to 100 by March from the current 40.
The Sunny will be produced at Nissan Renault’s joint manufacturing factory in Oragadam in Chennai, which has a capacity to produce 400,000 units annually.
The factory will also produce a multipurpose vehicle currently under development with Ashok Leyland Ltd. The vehicle is expected to be introduced next fiscal.
