Mitsubishi i-MiEV customisation portal

Mitsubishi i-MiEV customisation portal ; Mitsubishi i-MiEV customisation portal : Mitsubishi has announced the launch of a new web portal that allows for bespoke vehicle customisation, starting with the company's pure electric vehicle the i-MiEV.

Available from 13 Mitsubishi EV Sales Centres in the UK, the i-MiEV promises zero-emission transportation in a 'funky' design - described by the company as "making a definite fashion statement". For those who'd prefer something a little more custom, the new web portal is certainly worth a look.

The customisation programme offers accessories and products to add on to the i-MiEV that have never been available from Mitsubishi before, including partial vehicle body wraps, custom leather and Alston trimmed interiors, and eco-friendly accessories like car mats constructed from plant resin.

Buyers can also choose from one of four different body colours - Cool Silver, Ocean Blue, Frost White, and Amethyst Black - onto which a partial body wrap can be applied. While custom designs aren't yet supported, there's a selection of options to choose from.

Various combinations of interior and exterior styles are available, including two packs for those who want to speed up the decision making process: the Tamashii pack adds leather seats, dashboard, steering wheel and gear knob, a partial vehicle wrap, and a plant resin mat set; the Sugata pack adds a high-gloss tailgate spoiler, sports alloys, leather dashboard, steering wheel grib, and gear knob, partial vehicle wrap, and plant resin mats.

A number of in-car entertainment customisations are also possible on the site, including the ability to add a KIV 700 system with three-inch TFT display, or a DNX7240BT navigation console with seven-inch display, DVD player, reverse camera, and pre-set locations of charging points in London.

Testing the i-MiEV against typical UK urban usage has proved the benefits are real:

* Costs just £270 to charge for 12,000 miles driving (£2.09 per full charge based on an average of 10p per kWh). If you are using the Economy7 tariff then the cost for 12,000 miles could be as little as £135 (£1.05 per full charge based on an average of 5p per kWh)
* Low servicing costs and downtime – only 4 major working parts compared to over 300 in a typical internal combustion engine
* The i-MiEV Mitsubishi Service Plan (MSP) covers the first three years servicing at a cost of just £300
* Servicing carried out by any one of Mitsubishi’s 133 service dealers
* Exempt from road tax
* First year capital allowances for fleet vehicles
* Zero benefit-in-kind company car tax
* Exempt from London Congestion Charge
* Free parking in some London boroughs and cities such as Milton Keynes
* 5 year battery warranty and 3 year vehicle warranty
