U.S. Automobile sales in June 2011

Automotive Dealer - U.S. Automobile sales in June 2011 : Automobile sales in June increased 7% from a year ago but seasonally adjusted annual rate declined to the lowest in the year. GM, Ford and Chrysler were the three leading sellers in the order for the second month in a row. Toyota and Honda sales declined 21%.

U.S. auto sales in June rose 7% and seasonally adjusted annual rate declined to 11.5 million as Japanese makers offered fewer discounts. However, the average transaction price has been inching up for more than a year and crossed for the first time $30,000.

Three domestic makers GM, Ford and Chrysler led the monthly sales for the second month in a row as Chrysler reported its double digit sales increase for the fifteen month in a row and its best since June 2007.

Toyota and Honda sales fell 21% as both makers suffered inventory shortages and offered the lowest discounts of less than $500 compared to industry average of $2,500.

For the year so far, total light vehicle sales increased 12.8% to 6.33 million from 5.61 million, passenger car sales rose 12.8% to 3.23 million from 2.86 million and light truck sales increased 12.8% to 3.10 million from 2.75 million.

The monthly data are released by the industry research organization Autodata Corp based in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey.

Seasonally adjusted annual sales rate in June decreased to 11.45 million from 11.8 million in May and from 11.17 million in the month a year ago.

In June, total light vehicle sales increased 7.1% to 1,053,248 from 983,738 from a year ago period. Passenger car sales in the month rose to 527,344 from 499,743 and light truck sales increased to 525,904 from 483,995. Detroit automakers garnered more than 50% market share in the month.

For the year, sales at Subaru rose 4.8%, at Hyundai Motor increased 26.2% and Kia soared 44.1%.

In the month, Hyundai sales rose 15.6%, Kia sales increased 41.2% and Subaru sales decreased 8.4%.

Three U.S. automakers, GM, Ford and Chrysler ranked first, second and third for the second month in a row since September 2006 as Toyota and Honda suffered sales decline.

Industry average transaction price in June increased 2.9% from a year ago to $30,000 according to TrueCar.com.

GM, Ford, Chrysler Win 50% Market

General Motors (GM) sales increased 10.6% to 215,335 from 194,716. Sales of light vehicles rose 0.1% to 119,919 from 119,798. Sales of cars increased 27.4% to 95,416. Sales for the year so far increased 17.1% to 1,261,610 from 1,076,993.

Ford Motor Company (F) sales increased 13.3% to 193,415 from 170,695 vehicles a year ago. For the year so far, sales rose 12.2% to 1,069,736 from 953,146 compared to a year ago period. Truck sales in the month rose 11.2% to 120,299 from 108,176.

Sales of passenger cars gained 17% to 73,116 compared to 62,519 a year ago. In June, sales of the Fusion increased 13% to total of 20,808. For the year-to-date Fusion sales increased 18% totaled 131,686 from 111,175.

Chrysler LLC sales in June increased 30.2% to 120,394 from 92,482 vehicles a year ago. Sales of cars increased 5.3% to 31,659 and light truck sales rose 42.2% to 88,735. For the year so far, sales increased 21.4% to 639,932 from 527,219.

GM, Ford and Chrysler collectively sold more than half of all cars sold in the month.

Toyota, Honda Sales plunges 21%

Toyota Motor sales in June declined 21.1% to 110,937 from 140,604 in the same period a year earlier. Sales of the cars decreased 27.9% to 56,558 from 78,448 and light trucks decreased 12.5% to 54,379 from 62,156 a year ago.

Honda sales in the month decreased 21.3% to 83,892 from 106,627 a year ago. For the year so far, sales rose 2.3% to 607,442 from 593,909. Sales of cars in the month fell 28.9% to 44,261 from 62,229 and sales of the light trucks decreased 10.7% to 39,631 compared to 44,398 a year ago.

Nissan Motor Company vehicles sales in the month increased 11.4% to 71,941 from 64,570 a year ago. For the year so far, sales rose 17.7% to 0.50 million from 0.44 million. June cars sales rose 9.5% and sales of the light trucks increased 15.2% from a year ago.

Mitsubishi Motors vehicles June sales surged 97.7% to 8,299 compared with 4,198 units in the month of last year.

Sales for Mazda increased 5.9% to 19,307 compared to 18,238 in the year ago.

BMW Sales Up 15%, VW Sales Rise 30%

Volkswagen Group of America Inc sales increased 29.8% to 38,696 from 29,803 a year ago. Vehicles branded Audi sales increased 16.9%. Volkswagen gained 35.1% and Bentley sales soared to 53.4%.

Mercedes-Benz USA sales in june 2011 the month rose 17% to 22,898 from a year ago. Sales of Maybach increased 25% to only 5 compared to 4 a year ago. Sales of the Smart decreased 42.8% to 330 from 577 a year ago.

BMW of North America Inc sales in the month increased 14.8% to 26,889 compared to a year ago month to 23,416. Rolls Royce sales declined 71.8% to 24 from 85 a year ago.

Jaguar Land Rover N.A. LLC unit sales increased 3% to 4,541 from 4,408 a year ago. Sales of Land Rover increased 13% to 3,152 from 2,790.

Porsche Cars N.A. Inc sales in the month soared 18.9% to 2,546 from 2,141 a year ago.

For the year so far, sales rose 41.5% to 15,542 from 10,984. Sales of cars in the month fell 6.6% to 1,537 from 1,645 and sales of the light trucks surged 103.4% to 1,009 compared to 496 a year ago.
